1. an understanding of what the BNC is, and how it is structured and encoded;
2. ideas about how the BNC can be used in language teaching;
3. experience of encoding, processing, and searching XML corpora in general;
4. experience of using XAIRA to search the BNC;
5. experience of using XAIRA to index other corpora.
