How do I order a copy of the BNC XML Edition/BNC Baby and how much does it cost?

How long does it take before my order is delivered?

Once we receive your order and can verify payment we try to dispatch the CDs as soon as possible, usually within a few days at the most. Orders are sent via air mail (UK first class) - how long it takes to reach you depends on the postal services.

Can I send you the order and licence forms electronically or via fax?

You order the corpora via our online form. You then have to print out the confirmation email and send that and your payment to us. If you order the BNC XML Edition with a personal licence or the BNC Baby and are paying by credit card, you can send the confirmation and card details by fax. If you are ordering the BNC XML Edition with an institutional licence, the current agreement between OUCS and the BNC Consortium stipulates that you also have to send us two signed hard copies of the licence form. These cannot be faxed.

Do I have to pay VAT on my order?

Value-added Tax (VAT), or sales tax, at the standard rate where applicable is payable on orders within Europe. If you live outside EU you do NOT have to pay VAT. European institutions that do not wish to be charged VAT at the UK rate should send us their institution's VAT-number. The rate is 20%.

Do you charge for postage and packing?

No. Postage and packing is included in the prices for BNC XML Edition and BNC Baby.

My corpus has not arrived - what do I do?

If you have sent us an order but not received your corpus within a couple of weeks, contact us.

Can I buy the BNC for re-sale?

No. The OUCS acts on behalf of the BNC Consortium and can only sell the corpus directly to the end user.

I want to buy the corpus for someone else – how does that work?

You can only buy the corpus for yourself or your institution. All BNC customers have to get the corpus directly from us – we cannot make it available through any third party, agency, or re-seller.
